Professor Fran van Buchem and Dr. Najeh Ben Chaabane from the SEASTAR group, participated in the International Association of Sedimentologists meeting held from June 27 to July 30, 2024, in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. This prestigious event gathered top sedimentologists and stratigraphers from around the globe to share their expertise and recent studies on the geological record in relation to climate change and the evolution of the Earth system.
Dr. Najeh Ben Chaabane presented recent results on the Aptian sedimentary record from the Northern African plate. His oral presentation focused on "An Extended Upper Aptian Succession from the Southern NeoTethys (Tunisia): High-Resolution Isotope Stratigraphy and a Siliciclastic-Dominated Lowstand.
In addition to the conference, Professor van Buchem and Dr. Ben Chaabane participated in a post-conference field trip organized by the IAS, where they explored the facies evolution of Carboniferous glacial deposits and their global context within the Fife Kingdom.
